More Than Inspiration
“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified” —(Acts 20:32)
Some people seem not to fully understand the profit of sitting under the ministry of the Word of God. You hear them telling their friends who are going for a church service; “We won’t make it to church today; just pray for us.” And they continue, “Our bodies won’t be there physically, but we are with you in the spirit”. What an error! If such people only knew the benefits of appearing before God and sitting under the preaching and the teaching of His Word, they would take in a second thought before making a decision of missing church services.
You see; the preaching and teaching of God’s Word is not just mere inspiration—it is more than inspiration. I know some of you like to read inspirational books and love to sit under inspirational speakers to be motivated which are a good thing. However, you must understand that inspirational speakers and inspiration books have a limitation: they only address the mind but don’t target the human spirit which is the real you. Hence, they can’t change who you are; they simply add knowledge to you. This is not the case with the Word of God.
The opening Scripture above beautifully depicts two amazing truths about the power of God’s Word and what it does to us:
The Word “…is able to build you up….” In other words, it raises a structure in you and produces a man of the God-kind—it manufactures the perfect replica of God within you since the Word is God Himself. It produces in you the man which God meant you to be. The Word is the spirit and when you hear it, it ministers to your spirit and changes it.
I believe it is no strange thing to hear that you’ve an inheritance in Christ, is it? The Bible explicitly says in one of the Scriptures that God has made us meet or fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light (Colossians 1:12). Now the question is: how does one receive or get hold of that inheritance? Or how does one possess their possessions in the household of God their Father?
This is where the Word of God comes in. The Scripture above says also that the Word is “…able to give you an inheritance….” In other words, the Word of God is able to deliver to you that which God has in store for you. It is the transmitter or the conveyor of God’s inheritance to His children, so to speak. Actually, the things which Christ accomplished for you such as prosperity; divine health; deliverance, just to mention a few, are delivered to you through the ministry of the Word.
Develop the habit of loving the teaching, preaching and studying of God’s Word today and watch your life moving from glory to glory in Jesus name!
