THE EMERGENCE OF CHIFUNIRO “ELIAZAR” BANDA

NEW MUSIC FROM ZOMBA, MALAWI

You may have already listened to the new mellow voice on most all radios. You may also have watched him on the television stations.

Ndaponda Mwala is the new music from an upcoming gospel musician from Zomba; Chifuniro (full name Chifuniro Eliazar Banda). Together with another Sagona, Ndaponda Mwala which is enjoying airplays was released on 1st May 2020 as part of promotion for the artist’s upcoming album. The song has a fusion of traditional (manganje) beat with modern instruments.

In the song which starts with a verse narrating how the singer’s life is a wonder to many people, Chifuniro sings in a deep Chewa accent,

‘Chimene sodziwa n’choti ine ndimudziwa yemwe ndimudziwayo.
Chimene sowono n’choti ine ndimuwona, yemwe ndimuwona.’

To mean he sees what everyone does not see, and knows what everyone does not know. He then reveals the secrete by using a personalised Chewa proverb,

‘Ndili nawo mwala womwe ndaponda ine’
(My confidence is on the stone I am stepping on).

The gospel musician finishes, ‘Yesu ndi nthanthwe losasunthika’
(Jesus is the unshakable solid rock).

Both songs were produced by OBK Records.

From the so many radio and newspaper reviews, you will never regret to listen to this new voice. From one radio interview, a host noted that ‘your music is so matured and I can’t believe you claim to be new in the industry’. Another TV presenter commented during a recorded interview with the artist, ‘This is the music I would play on air again and again’.
